PETALING JAYA: An elderly woman lost her life in what is believed to be a robbery-turned-murder involving RM100,000 worth of jewellery.

A. Kuppu, 73, was found dead by her neighbours in her home at Desa Mentari, Sungai Way, near here, around 12.15am yesterday.

Jewellery worth around RM100,000 was also missing from the house.

According to Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Arjunaidi Mohamed, the victim, who was staying with her relatives, was believed to be with her six-year-old great granddaughter when the incident occurred.

He added that according to the child, who had fallen asleep while watching television in the living room, she saw a relative who visited the victim earlier that night. The relative later left with the jewellery.

“The victim suffered severe head trauma.

“We believe her head was smashed violently against the wall,” ACP Arjunaidi said, adding that there were also scratches on her body.

Police have identified the relative and are trying to locate the person.
