Fun time at social gathering

What say you on the issue below?

LOVE Classifieds, a monthly social gathering organised by RedFM, has grown from strength to strength since its inception about a year and a half ago, and will soon be expanded to places beyond the Klang Valley.

The aim of the event, according to Red FM radio deejay Nisha, is to create a relaxed and fun-filled atmosphere in which people can socialise, find friends or even meet that special someone.

“Our listeners are generally young working adults and most are so busy that the only people they meet are their colleagues. Here, they can meet other people outside their own circles, win prizes by playing games and have a good time,” Nisha said.

Sharing the experience: (From left) Deejays Nisha and JD interviewing the couple who won the ‘Peg Game’, in which the female participant was blindfolded and required to remove all the pegs on the shirt of the male participant, using only her mouth.

She added that the event also provided listeners with the opportunity to meet and talk to the Red FM deejays.

At the start of the event, each participant would be given a number and a form to jot down other participants’ numbers. The station will exchange the email addresses of any two participants who mutually wish to do so as indicated in the forms they return.

The event started off using the speed-dating format but has since evolved into a fun-filled gathering at which people can meet others at their own pace in an informal setting or via the ice-breaking games.

Joanne Khong, 49, a tuition teacher, brought along two friends and her brother to the latest Love Classifieds gathering to introduce them to the deejays, and by so doing, convince them to switch to her favourite radio station.

“It’s really fun and gives us a chance to live it out as we did not have such events when we were younger,” Khong said.

Maintainence engineer Naveen De Silva, 26, said he had no idea what kind of event Love Classifieds was and had turned up mainly because he felt it would be fun.

“It’s a pretty cool and unique event that is really fun. If another friend were to invite me to the gatherings, I’d come without a doubt,” De Silva said.

The latest Love Classifieds event was held at MED.@Marche at Renaissance Hotel Kuala Lumpur on Saturday and was attended by about 100 participants, comprising both men and women.

Fun game: Randomly selected participants playing a game in which the women had to guide a ping-pong ball up one leg of their partner’s pants and then down the other leg.
