GEORGE TOWN: A woman, believed to be high on drugs, tried to jump from the rooftop of the Penang International Airport main building after an argument with her boyfriend.

However, airport staff and police personnel managed to distract and grab her, carrying her to safety.

The woman, a Chinese national in her 20s, was spotted standing at the edge of the roof around 4.30pm yesterday, looking distressed.

Rapid Penang counter staff Rosni Shuib, 43, said she saw the woman on the roof and immediately alerted the authorities.

A staff member of the Malaysia Airports Bhd and the police talked to the woman, and while she was distracted, they grabbed and carried her to safety.

Balik Pulau OCPD Supt Mohd Hatta Mohd Zain said police also sent her for a urine test, as they believed she was high on drugs.

“Our investigations showed that the woman and her boyfriend have been here since Sept 3.

“They were supposed to have left for Macau on Thursday.”
