Teng lashes out at Hasan

KLANG: Selangor state assembly Speaker Teng Chang Khim has fired a stinging salvo at Selangor PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Ali, accusing him of nit-picking over issues and attempting to discredit the state’s Pakatan Rakyat leadership.

Teng, who has been under criticism by virtue of him being the assembly’s Select Commit-tee for Competency, Accountability and Transparency chairman, also accused Dr Hasan of telling “blatant lies”.

According to Teng, Dr Hasan’s conduct in recent months had indicated he had been making things difficult for Khalid.

He said Dr Hasan first opposed the appointment of Low Siew Moi as general manager of the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

He then issued a statement calling on Khalid to explain the allegation that he had used state money to buy cows for his Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency in Kuala Lumpur, and maintain his private vehicle, followed by calls over the sale of beer in Selangor.

“The Selcat criticism is the latest attack.”

Teng said Dr Hasan’s attacks on Selcat were riddled with blatant lies.

“He accused me of saying that Klang district officer Bakhtiar Hussin was ineffective and unfit for his position. I did not say such a thing,” he said.

He said Dr Hasan had initially said retired judges should be appointed as Selcat members. Later, he denied saying so.

“He also said Selcat must be made up of reputable and credible people. Is he saying that the current panel is not reputable and credible enough?” Teng asked.

Teng added that Dr Hasan had not called him even once after criticising Selcat to discuss the issue.

He said Dr Hasan was the first person to call him to discuss the setting up of a coalition government immediately after the general election last year.

“He could call me then but can’t do it now.”

Teng said Dr Hasan did not have sound arguments to support his criticisms.

“He called for Selcat inquiries to be conducted behind closed doors to protect the integrity of the officers being questioned.

“However, integrity needs to be tested and not protected,” said Teng.

When contacted, Selangor senior exco member Teresa Kok declined comment but said a meeting between the state PAS and DAP was being planned to iron out differences.
