Salak Tinggi water treatment plant shuts

What say you on the issue below?

KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd has decided to shut down the Salak Tinggi water treatment plant in Kampung Ginching, Sepang, since Sunday due to ammonia contamination.

In a statement issued by the plant operated by Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd (PNSB) it said the decision was made following water contamination and high ammonia content in the untreated water supply.

“The plant was shutdown when PNSB identified an increase in ammonia content in the water which resulted in a foul smell,” it said. “This is the third time this year that the plant was closed due to contamination.” However, disruptions to about 10,000 consumers in 19 villages were minimal as water to the affected areas was supplied through the Sungai Semenyih and the Sungai Langat treatment plants instead.

Among the villages that depended on supply from Salak Tinggi are Kampung Labu Lanjut, Kampung Salak Tinggi, Salak Tengah, Giching Hulu, Giching Hilir, Kampung Lembah Paya, Pekan Salak, Kampung Baru Salak, Kampung Chincang, Taman Salak Murni and Taman Desa Salak Permai.
