TUMPAT: More than 400 rural folk of Kampung Mentua flocked to a medical camp in Kelantan recently where they were exposed to the state of the art medical technology, brought by Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
Almost all specialists from the hospital in Kubang Kerian attended the camp where they rendered services to patients who were deprived of modern health care in the state.
The camp, which was held at Wat Silaloi Kampung Mentua-Loi Kratong temple, had also attracted many villagers from the surrounding areas who went for basic medical check ups such as measuring their sugar levels or blood pressure while others took advantage of the pap smear and dental examinations.

Consumer groups and Dutch Lady Industries of Malaysia also chipped in by providing nutritional advice for expectant mothers and distributed 500 sachets of free milk.
Hospital director Dr Zaidun Kamari said the medical camp, going into its fourth year, could not have been possible without the help of the NGOs.
He encouraged other NGOs to do the same as such camps were beneficial to those living in remote areas.
Assoc Professor Dr Nik Mohd Zaki Nik Mahmood from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department said major medical camps organised by the hospital could remove the misconceptions that the rural population had towards modern medical technology.
