MAKKAL Osai reported that lack of leadership and greed for positions have led to the emergence of many political parties claiming to represent the Indian community.
It quoted Malaysian Indian United Party (MIUP) president Datuk K.S. Nallakaruppan as saying that the Indian community could become a strong force if all the Indians came under one banner.
Speaking after opening the party’s branch office in Senai yesterday, he said MIUP was open to Indian leaders suspended from other political parties so that they could continue their community services.
> Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Senator Datuk T. Murugiah chided rich Indian corporate figures for their lack of participation in welfare or community services, Tamil Nesan reported.
“It is sad that many of them forget about their own community after becoming successful,” he told reporters after opening a motorcycle workshop belonging to M.S. Eswaran in Tampin yesterday.
He urged Indian corporate leaders to come forward and help to uplift the Indian community.
> The newspaper also quoted Deputy Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk S.K. Devamany as saying that the Indian community must ensure that traditional games and culture were not lost over time.
“If no action is taken immediately, there is a possibility that many of our traditional games may be forgotten and our identity lost,” he told reporters after opening the family day celebrations organised by Kuala Kangsar MIC division in Sungei Perak on Friday.
