HAVING the chance to break fast in restaurants or hotels is a bonus for news anchor Suhaimi Sulaiman as finding time to do so is almost impossible.
Suhaimi said since he joined the Astro Awani station, he had been breaking fast at the office as he had to work seven days a week.
“The office is like a home to most of us. During Ramadan we even have food catered to the office for us. It is like one big family breaking fast together,” said Suhaimi.
The 47-year-old said he was not fussy when it comes to food and would settle for some simple Mee Goreng.
Among his favourites: Suhaimi with a packet of Nasi Lemak for buka puasa. “My shows usually last 30 minutes after we break fast and we do not have time to sit and enjoy the food. I usually just grab something sweet and have a proper meal later.
“I like Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak or Mee Goreng, ” said Suhaimi who lives in Hartamas, Kuala Lumpur.
However, on weekends when work starts in the evening, Suhaimi would cook his favourite Spaghetti Marinara and take it to work.
“The Spaghetti Marinara is easy to prepare and takes me just 20 minutes,” said Suhaimi who enjoys cooking.
The former student of Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) said he uses bottled tomato based pasta sauce and adds in prawns, squid and fish fillet.
He said the fasting month was also good for him as he was able to lose weight easily.
“I will gain back all the weight I lost and probably put on some more within the first 10 days of Raya,” he said.
Suhaimi, who anchors the Agenda Awani and Analisis Awani programme, said this Hari Raya would not be any different from the previous years.
“My parents live in Kajang, so I would usually spend about two to three hours there with them on the first day of Raya before leaving for work,” said Suhaimi who has been in the media industry for the past 19 years.
To add to the joy of the festive occasion, Suhaimi said his mother would always cook extra food for him to share with his colleagues at the station.
“My mother knows that every year I have to work so she will prepare lemang, rendang, Chicken Curry and sambal to take to work,
“So every year, my colleagues who have to work during Raya at the station will be waiting for me to bring the food,” said Suhaimi.
