Sibling shuttlers prefer kuih and sardine rolls to break fast

What say you on the issue below?

BREAKING fast with his family during Ramadan has been a simple routine for emerging talent Shahzan Shah Mishaful Muneer.

The 12-year-old southpaw shuttler from Selangor said he would usually have a light and easy meal before getting ready for training along with his two elder brothers - Eizlan Shah, 13, and Farzad Shah, 14.

They attend training under the guidance of former national player K. Yogendran at the New Vision Badminton Academy four times a week — on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

“Usually, our mother will prepare our favourites such as Kuih Seri Muka, Roti John and Sardine Rolls for us at home.

“We like breaking fast at home because it is more comfortable. I have a sweet tooth, so I will go for the two-toned white and green Kuih Seri Muka with the combination of coconut milk and pulut.

“I can polish up to three pieces at a go,” the SK La Salle, Petaling Jaya Year Six pupil said.

His father, Mishaful Muneer M. Seeni Hassan and mother Mariamah Abdul Rahman will pick up a variety of kuih from the Ramadan bazaar near their house in Bandar Puchong Jaya.

Over the weekends, Muneer said he would treat his children at McDonald’s.

“We visit McDonald’s at the Amcorp Mall in Petaling Jaya frequently.

“It is an ideal stopover and hangout for us before we head to the next location. It is easy to please my children. They will be delighted with a value meal each,” he added.

And Shahzan, who sat for the his UPSR examination recently, has been opting for the spicy chicken McDeluxe to go along with his fries and soft drink.

“We go to the fast food joint often because they serve fresh crispy french fries,” said Shahzan, who was also the recipient of the Best Batsman award in the Under-12 contest when he featured for Selangor at the Malaysian Schools Sports Council Cricket meet in Penang this year.

After their evening training session, the three siblings will reach home around midnight and they feed their hunger with peanut butter bread and instant noodles before going to bed.

“We only have rice for sahur to face a long challenging day ahead during the fasting month. I fancy the ayam masak lemak with rice and vegetables.

“We are very fortunate that our mother takes the effort to cook for us,” Shahzan added.
