Media members chip in to present Raya goodies

What say you on the issue below?

Instead of just filing stories, journalists in Seremban were in the news recently — taking time out from their busy schedules to hand out festive goodies and dine with a group of single mothers and orphaned children.

Organised by Ikwan (Negri Sembilan Media Club), the buka puasa event held at the Royale Bintang Hotel and Spa Seremban included mainstream media journalists and 29 children and single mothers from the Ampangan area.

Ikwan president Ainol Amriz Ismail said the association hoped to make the events a regular feature on its annual calendar.

Guests were treated to a buka puasa spread with ample sweet treats to keep the little ones happy.

The event was held with the co-operation of the hotel’s management who also chipped in by handing out duit raya and festive hampers to the children and single mothers present.

Resident hotel manager Mashor Din said he was happy to be a part of the event and stressed that the less fortunate should not be forgotten during the festive season.

“This is the only way that they can experience dining five-star and it is satisfying for us to see their happy faces at the end of the day.

The efforts of Ikwan and the hotel’s management certainly did not go unnoticed judging from some of the guests’ comments.

“It’s a wonderful gesture on their part. It’s not just the 5-star experience that makes the difference, it’s knowing that there are people out there who think of us and our plight.

“It brings tears to my eyes,” said sixty-something single mother Zainon Mohd Ali.
