GEORGE TOWN: A gang fight arising from a woman who allegedly two-timed her boyfriend, led to a man being beaten to death at the seafront near Queensbay Mall here.
Wan Ahmad Faizal Wan Abdul Rahman, 33, and a friend were attacked by 10 men brandishing helmets near the seafront promenade at 5.40am yesterday.
The ice-cream seller from Teluk Kumbar succumbed to head injuries at 9.20am, some three hours after the attack. He was earlier sent to the Penang Hospital for treatment.
His unidentified friend who sustained head and body injuries lodged a police report.
Five men were detained between 8am and 4pm to facilitate investigations into Wan Ahmad Faizal’s murder, said southwest district police deputy chief Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Lai Fah Hin.
He said the motive of the killing could be jealousy. Police are in the midst of tracking down others involved in the attack.
Lai said initial investigations revealed the victim had an argument with his girlfriend, claiming she was seeing another man.
