A DONATION of RM50,000 was made to the Mercy-Yasmin Ahmad Fund For Children by cosmetics brand Silkygirl.
The cosmetic brand set up the fund in memory of the late Yasmin Ahmad who died recently.
“Yasmin is a person who showed the spirit of 1Malaysia in her works and should be cherished as an icon,” Alliance Cosmetics Sdn Bhd managing director Tan Thiam Hock said.
A good deed: (From left) Fatimah, Tan, Sharifah, Orked, Mercy Malaysia honorary secretary Raja Riza Shazmin Raja Badrul Shah and Mercy Malaysia publications and public relations senior officer Hana Kamaruddin with the mock cheque. He added that he was first contacted by the director when she was looking for corporations to contribute to Mercy Malaysia.
“The commercial she made for us became quite well known and was the work of true talent because though it was simple, it was very effective,” Tan said.
He added that it was a pity to have lost such a talent, a sentiment echoed by most of the speakers at the Silkygirl event held at its flagship store in Mid Valley where the donation was made to Mercy.
According to Yasmin Ahmad’s sister Datin Orked Ahmad, the director had once said nothing pleased her more than touching the feelings of others through her works.
“Even though she is no longer with us, she will remain in our memories,” Orked said.
Media Prima television networks group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Ahmad Farid Ridzuan also attended the event along with local stars Sharifah Amani, Gadaffi Ismail Sabri or better known as Dafi, Mohd Syafie Naswip and Mawi.
“Always the consummate storyteller, she would’ve wanted us to love her ‘children’ and Mercy is one of the NGOs she has always supported,” Yasmin Ahmad’s friend Fatimah Abu Bakar said.
She is also the mother of four daughters, including Sharifah Amani, one of the recurring artistes in the Yasmin’s films.
