MASRI Ismail and Martin Kwong were the toast of the day when they emerged gross and nett champions respectively in the inaugural AmBank Platinum MasterCard tournament in Glemarie recently.
Masri carded a six-over 78 and was only one stroke better than three players while Martin returned a nett score of six-under 66.
It was enough for the 18-handicapper to get past five players bunched at five-under 67.
The winners: Mohamed Azmi (centre) with Masri (left) and Kwong. Both players won an LG DVD Player each as well as entry into the Prudential-Astro Masters Grand Final that will take place in the Hainan island next month.
In Hainan, they will compete against 48 players on the fairways of the Meishi Mayflower Golf Club and the West Coast Golf Club.
Their prizes includes return air travel to Hainan, three nights accommodation at a five-star hotel, meals, transfers and a chance to win more prizes.
Ambank retail banking managing director Datuk Mohamad Azmi Mahmood said the annual event would become part of a series of initiatives by the AmBank Credit Cards and LOC department.
“This event was to show our appreciation to our Platinum cardmembers who are passionate about golf.
“It also gives us the opportunity to host cardmembers and business partners alike to a challenging round of golf and an enjoyable evening of good food, excellent company and wonderful prizes,” he said.
The field of 100 players was divided into two medals groups, A and B.
Teh Chew Keat walked home with an 32-inch LCD television set when he scored 41 Stableford points to win the B Medal which was for golfers with handicaps ranging between 19 and 36.
The fight for honours in the A Medal was tighter. Four players finished with 41 Stableford points but Imtiaz Hussain Manzoor Hussain got the nod thanks to a lower handicap of 12.
He also took home a 32-inch LCD television set.
The tournament was organised for AmBank Platinum cardmembers and hosted by the AmBank Credit Cards and LOC department.
