PM: Idris' track record makes him ideal choice

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said Malaysia Airlines managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Idris Jala was appointed a minister for his impressive track record in implementing the national carrier's transformation programme.

"With his track record, Idris Jala is the ideal person for this position. There is nobody else in the government with such a track record.

"He will be using his experience and people would take note of his views as he speaks with a sense of authority," he said after the inaugural meeting of the National Economic Advisory Council yesterday.

Najib said Idris would complement Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, minister in the Prime Minister's Department in charge of National Unity and Performance Management, as chief executive officer of Performance Management and Delivery Unit (Pemandu), which will oversee the implementation of the key performance indicator initiatives.

Najib said Koh, who welcomed Idris' appointment, would continue with his task of formulating and executing the overall policy and strategies for performance management and organisational transformation with special focus on national key result areas.

The prime minister added that Idris would be made a senator and was likely to be sworn in next week.
