Wee: No need to argue over Oct 10 date

What say you on the issue below?

IPOH: There is no need to debate on the Oct 10 MCA EGM date as it is still within the stipulated 30-day period after the requisition was received.

Party youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said the decision by Datuk Wong Foon Meng to set the date was not against the party constitution.

”Oct 10 is exactly one month after the party secretary-general received the requisition on Sept 11.

”Therefore, it is not against any party rules,” he said yesterday after receiving RM1.1mil education aid from gaming company Da Ma Cai.

Dr Wee was asked to comment on complaints by sacked deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek that Oct 10 was too late to hold the EGM.

Dr Wee, who is also deputy Education Minister, said Wong decided on the date as there were not many choices available.

”As we can only conduct the meeting on a weekend, the Oct 10 weekend is the only weekend available before the 30-day period expires,” he said, taking into account the Hari Raya celebrations, the AGM of the Federation of Chinese Associations Malaysia, the Mid-Autumn Festival and the Bagan Pinang by-election nomination.

Advising delegates to attend the EGM to determine the party’s fate, Dr Wee said it was the best way to solve the party’s problem.
