THE water pressure at the Selayang Segar Flats in Taman Selayang Segar is now back to normal, thanks to the prompt action by Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) .
The workers increased the water pressure by removing the sediment from the clogged pipes.
Action was taken after StarMetro reported on the problem in an article “Nightly wait for water” on Sept 24.
According to Selayang Segar Flats chairman Khuak Fook Choon, 59, he received a call as early as 9am from Syabas on the day the article was published.
The employees were at the site together with Syabas corporate coommunications and public affairs general manager Abdul Halem Mat Som and Syabas Strategic Resources executive director V. Subramaniam.
In the article it was highlighted that the low water pressure affected the water flow on the third and fourth floors.
“Previously, during the day, there were no water supply as the water pressure was not high enough to reach the higher floors.
“Some of the residents were even forced to use their neighbours’ toilets on the ground floor,” said Khuak, adding that he had complained to Syabas on numerous occasions over the last two years but his complaints were ignored.
“Now it’s much better and we can even see clothes being dried after a long time,” he added.
Abdul Halem said the measuring of the pressure was at 20 PSI, a normal reading.
“However, since the flats are almost 16 years old, the GI (galvanised iron) pipes were old and rusty, thus affecting the water pressure.
“Residents are advised to change to high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipes or ABS pipes, that could cost them about RM2,000 especially for those on the fourth floor,” said Abdul Halem.
He added that the adjustment to the water pressure was only temporary and the best option would be for the residents to change their rusty pipes.
