Veteran act out to thrill music fans

What say you on the issue below?

CEE JAY’S PLACE in Petaling Jaya is one of the latest spots to enjoy a night on the town with some good music. Since opening earlier this year, the outlet has played host to some of the biggest names on the pub circuit and next week, on Oct 3, it’s going to be an extra special night with Paul Ponnudorai making a visit back to his home shores.

Anyone who followed the live music scene in the Klang Valley in the 1990s would be familiar with Paul but, for the past several years, performances by him have been few and far between as he has been based across the Causeway for a while.

Having been in the business for more than three decades, Paul is an old hand at the guitar and he certainly knows how to take a song and turn it around, making it his own.

Paul has played with some big names and has developed a sound that is his alone so this should be a night to remember for anyone with an interest in live music.

Great vibes: Paul Ponnudurai is certainly a hard act to follow.

This might be a special one-night only gig but Cee Jay’s continues to serve up some great music throughout the month of October with a whole host of familiar names taking the stage at the outlet.

Every Monday, the sounds of Golden Oldies and the 1980s reverberate through the club with Moonshine taking the stage. On Tuesdays, soloist Vishnu shows up with his keyboards and he’s out to prove that you don’t need a full band to have a rocking good time. Expect some smooth grooves from this silver-tongued crooner.

Latin lovers will be happy to hear that jazz great Lewis Pragasam will be performing every Wednesday.

The rest of the week is given over to retro and country with Retro Edge (Thurs), Os Pombos (Fri & Sun), Hydra (Sat) and Elvis Reza (Sunday).

In between sets, patrons will be entertained by house deejays Alan, Big J and Lil G.

There will be a cover charge for Paul Ponnudorai’s performance and patrons will have to fork out RM30 (inclusive of one drink) to get in.
