PETALING JAYA: Elis Syuhaila Mokhtar’s hopes of seeing her six-year-old son, who was whisked away by his Dutch father six months ago, during Hari Raya were dashed when her husband expressed that there was “no way” he would return him.
The 34-year-old teacher said she was very upset that computer programmer Firdaus @ Frank Theodorus van de Ven, was adamant on not bringing back Ferris Mokhtar van de Ven to Malaysia even when told he had defied a court order.
“I have been crying since this morning when I saw the newspaper report on van de Ven’s refusal. I guess I am not going to get my son back by Hari Raya,” she told The Star yesterday.
She was responding to newspaper reports on van de Ven who contacted Umno Youth’s community complaints bureau chairman Datuk Muhd Khairun Aseh on Tuesday and said “no way” when the latter persuaded him to bring Ferris back to Malaysia.
Muhd Khairun said he spoke to van de Ven on the phone yesterday, adding that the Dutch was adamant in not wanting to part with his son.
When Muhd Khairun offered to set up a meeting for the family, he refused and challenged the bureau chief to take his son away.
Elis Syuhaila and van de Ven filed for divorce in January last year and took turns every week to look after Ferris until March 5 when van de Ven failed to return him. It is learnt that Ferris is currently with his father in Belgium.
However, Elis Syuhaila was still hopeful that Ferris would show up during the proceedings to determine the custody of the Malaysian boy at the Syariah Court in Shah Alam next Tuesday.
“Everytime I go to court, I bring Ferris’ soft toys and baby blanket in hopes that he would turn up,” she said, adding that her son was very attached to the blanket which he brought everywhere he went.
Muhd Khairun said he was working closely with the consular division in Wisma Putra and they had informed him that the court order has been forwarded to the Malaysian embassies in Belgium and Holland.
