KUALA LUMPUR: Human rights organisation Suara Rakyat Malaysia (Suaram) is calling for nominations for its 11th Annual Human Rights Award.

“The award is a tribute to a community or group that has shown exceptional courage, solidarity and perseverance in defending human rights in Malaysia,” its director Dr Kua Kia Soong told a press conference here yesterday.

The award will be presented at Suaram’s 20 Years Defending Human Rights dinner on Dec 6.

He urged communities or groups of people, which has persistently struggled in defending their rights, justice and dignity against oppression to submit their nominations before Nov 15.

The winner will receive RM2,000 in prize money and a specially-commisioned glass trophy at the dinner.

Kua said the dinner also aimed to raise funds for Suaram to continue its human rights work.
