MUAR: The Indonesian police have arrested six people involved in the “Sweeping Malaysians” incident.
This information was relayed to police chief Tan Sri Musa Hassan by his Indonesian counterpart Gen Bambang Hendarso Danuri.
“He (Bambang) called and told me about the arrest,” Bernama reported Musa as telling reporters after launching a road safety campaign in conjunction with the 20th Ops Sikap at Dataran Tanjung Emas here yesterday.
Newspapers had reported that a group of Indonesians had threatened to use sharpened bamboos on Malaysians at Jalan Diponegoro in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Musa said Indonesian police had given their assurance that Malaysians in their country would be protected.
In Kuala Lumpur, the Home Ministry assured the safety of 1.8 million Indonesian workers and students here.
“Despite the provocations, pressure, humiliation and threats, we will ensure their (Indonesian workers and students) safety,” minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein told reporters after attending the Umno Supreme Council meeting at the PWTC in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
