Selcat to grill Liu after Raya celebration

PETALING JAYA: State executive councillor Ronnie Liu will not be questioned over the constituency fund expenditures – which is allegedly exorbitant – until after the Hari Raya celebration.

Selangor’s Select Committee for Competency, Accountability and Transparency (Selcat) chairman Teng Chang Khim said Liu would only be called after all the nine district officers in the state had given their accounts on the existing disbursement system.

“We want to finish questioning all the district officers first before questioning assemblymen.

“We need time. The five days allotted for the hearing is not enough.

“We have to adjourn the hearing to another date after Hari Raya,” he said.

Selcat’s five-day public hearing on the 2008 and 2009 constituency allocations ends tomorrow.

So far, district officers from Klang, Petaling, Gombak and Kuala Selangor had given their statements to Selcat.

Liu, who is the Pandamaran assemblyman, is expected to be grilled about how he had spent the allocation of RM600,000 for his constituency within seven months.

Liu, who is also overseeing the Sungai Pelek and Sungai Panjang constituencies, had used up RM800,000 out of the RM1mil allocation.

He had said that all expenditures made were justifiable as Klang was full of active associations and organisations.

Selcat had also summoned Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad to answer certain queries pertaining to constituency funds.
