PETALING JAYA: Women and civil society groups want police to investigate the alleged rape threat against Batu Tiga state assemblyman Rodziah Ismail.

The threat was allegedly made during a dialogue initiated by the Selangor Government at the MBSA banquet hall on Sept 5, to resolve the Hindu temple relocation issue.

Federal Territory PKR Wanita chief Felicia Ling, who condemned those who uttered the threat, said police’s delay in taking action against those protesting the relocation late last month had led to another unruly incident.

Empower member Honey Tan said violence had defeated the democratic process.

“When they do that, it makes it more difficult for women to be in politics and to hold office,” she said.

Tan said the threat was gender-based violence because it specifically targeted a woman.

Rodziah has lodged a police report over the incident.
