JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested nine men in connection with the abduction and murder of suspended police constable Selvaganesan Chandran.

Johor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Shariff said police were still trying to ascertain the men’s involvement in the case.

“So far, I can only confirm that Selvaganesan was abducted by a group of men,” he said, adding that police were confident of solving the case soon.

The constable is from Kuala Kangsar, Perak and joined the police force in 2003.

The Star had earlier reported that the decomposed body of Selvaganesan, with his throat slit, was discovered in an oil palm plantation on the first day of Hari Raya.

It was earlier reported that Selvaganesan was abducted when two vehicles blocked his car at the Sri Stulang apartments at 4am on Sept 17.

At least five men, some armed with iron rods and parang, emerged from the vehicles and smashed the windscreen of the policeman’s car before pulling him out of the vehicle and hitting him repeatedly.

Selvaganesan was then bundled into one of the vehicles before the men drove off, leaving the woman in her 20s, behind.

Nearby residents alerted the police, thinking it was a gang fight.

When police arrived at the scene, they found the woman, who works as a clerk in Singapore, trembling with fear.
