PERAK state executive councillor Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon has urged local councillors to meet ratepayers at least once every three months to hear their grouses, reported Tamil Nesan.

He said municipal councillors should immediately solve problems raised by the residents during these meet-the-people sessions.

Tanjong Malim Indian Traders Association chairman R. Selvaraju also urged councils to help small-scale Indian traders in their application for business licences.

> Malaysia Nanban reported on Hutan Melintang state assemblyman Kesavan Subramaniam’s call for Indian organisations to address problems affecting the young generation.

Currently the number of Indian youngsters involved in theft, robbery, murder, gangsterism and drug-related problems had increased tremendously over the years.

He said it is the duty of the community to ensure these troubled youth return to the right path in life.

Kesavan said Indians comprise only 7% of the total population but 40% of them were involved in criminal activities, adding that many students in secondary school were not in uniformed bodies and lacked counselling.

> Tamil Nesan quoted Malaysian Fisheries Development Board director-general Datuk Mustafa Ahmad as saying that the price of fish had risen drastically due to the current rainy season and the higher demand during the festive period.

He said fish will be imported from Thai-land, Indonesia, Myanmar and Bangladesh to ensure sufficient supply, adding that prices may increase further.
