MALAYSIA finished 11th in the Nomura Cup inter-team golf competition at the Namseoul Country Club in Seoul, South Korea, recently.

The Malaysian quartet of Nicholas Fung, Gavin Kyle Green, Mohamad Iszaimi Ismail and Abel Tam had a combined score of 917 (234-218-231-234) in the four- day championship.

Green: A credible performance.

South Korea emerged as the champions with 846(212-213-214-207) followed by Taiwan (868) and Japan (878).

National coach V. Gunalen said the Malaysian team had given a credible performance in the championship.

“Looking at the scores, I am quite happy with our players’ scores. Of course there is room for improvement. We will resume training after Monday and I will be seeking the players’ feedback on their performance in Seoul,’’ said Gunalen.

Malaysia’s best scores came from Green. The youngster, making his debut in the championnship, had rounds of 75-72-78-75.

The Malaysian team’s next big competition will be the SEA Games. However, the team will not have it easy as rivals - Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines - had finished ahead of Malaysia in Seoul.

Gunalen admitted that they would have to intensify the training programme to get better results in Laos.
