KUALA TERENGGANU: Jakarta has expressed interest to buy Terengganu-assembled digital notebooks or e-Books, said state Education, Higher Learning, Science, Technology and Human Resource Committee chairman Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman.
“The state government is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian Education Ministry in Jakarta after Hari Raya,” he said when contacted here yesterday.
E-Books local assembler Top IT has been told to hold talks with the interested parties to facilitate supply.
Ahmad Razif said officials from the Indonesian government were impressed with the e-Books at a preview held in Kuala Lumpur recently. Another country that has shown interest is Brunei.
Ahmad Razif added that other states, including Penang and Malacca, were also interested in seeing how e-Books could help lighten students’ heavy schoolbags.
He gave an assurance that people in Terengganu would be given the first opportunity to obtain the e-Books.
“We have been granted the exclusive right by Intel to supply e-Books in this region” Ahmad Razif added.
