Impersonators do King of Pop justice

What say you on the issue below?

MICHAEL Jackson will forever live in the hearts of his true fans. As a tribute to the King of Pop, Brem Mall in Kepong organised a contest to seek out the best Michael Jackson impersonator.

Donned in distinctive sequined gloves and black jacket with sunglasses, 17 fans tried their best to imitate their idol by moonwalking and dancing to some of his greatest songs like Beat It, Bille Jean, Bad and many more.

Malaysian Michael Jackson Imper-sonate Artist Raizo Zen also performed for the crowd and was the chief judge of the contest.

The participants were judged based on a few criteria which were character, creativity, costume, features and skills.

The event did not discriminate as children as young as eight competed with adults in the spirit of being a Michael Jackson fan.

The grand prize of RM800, gift voucher worth RM300, a Giant hamper and a trophy was bagged by Darshan Penyam who performed an outstanding imitation of Michael Jackson.

The long-time fan got the crowd hyped up by performing a unique mix of Michael Jackson dances that he put into one short show. Ultimately, it was showcasing the spirit and energy of the idol that made him the winner.

“I’m glad to win but at the same time I feel sad because nobody can truly replace Michael,” the 26-year-old lawyer said.

He had been practising since the age of two by watching videos of the King of Pop on television. His costume was tailor-made.
