KUALA LUMPUR: Three teenagers narrowly escaped the clutches of their abductors when two girls jumped out of a moving car, while their male friend was released some 12 hours later.
The episode unfolded at midnight yesterday when one of the girls drove on to an uncompleted bridge near Greenview Apartment in Jinjang.
Unfortunately, her Perodua Kancil got stuck in mud. She telephoned her friend for help, who came with her boyfriend in a Proton Wira.
Seeing the trio struggling to free the 17-year-old's car, a Toyota Vios with three men stopped to help.
One of the men told the teenagers to get a rope to pull the car free.
Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Ku Chin Wah said the man told the teenage boy to follow his two friends in the Vios, while he and the girls followed in the boy's Wira.
But little did the girls imagine that the good Samaritan would turn a robber. He relieved the girls of their handphones and RM600.
The girls had a chance to escape when they approached a roadblock in Kepong.
One of the girls jumped off the car and was followed by the other.
The first girl suffered injuries and is now being treated at an undisclosed hospital in the city.
The other girl, with minor injuries, was helped by the policemen at the roadblock to lodge a report at the Jinjang police station.
The man in the Wira, however, sped off.
Upon seeing the commotion, the other two suspects, with the boy in tow, also fled the scene in their Vios.
Policemen at the roadblock failed to give chase.
The boy was held captive for about 12 hours before he was released unharmed at an undisclosed location in the city at noon yesterday.
It is learnt the boy was taken home by his father.
