SIXTY young artists created masterpieces that expressed their understanding of what “Being Green” was all about.
The children, aged between six and 12 years, were taking part in the Love Our Earth – Go Green drawing and colouring contest that was held at the Pearl Point Shopping Mall in conjunction with Pearl International Hotel’s E.A.R.T.H. Campaign.
“In line with the world’s plea to save our planet, we invite and encourage every one to go green and to preserve our beloved home for future generations.
“In fact, we have made the word ‘EARTH’ an acronym for our message to the community: We need to Explore, take Action and Recycle all the Time for our Home,” said the hotel’s vice-president of business development and finance, Datin Chiann Tan.
Tan added that the large-scale change that humanity needed would only be made possible by our daily choices and actions.
“Therefore, as a start, the next time we decide to throw away unwanted things or rubbish, pause a while and think: ‘Is my action going to make a green difference?’ The choices we make can transform Mother Earth.”
Twelve of the children’s works will be selected to be featured in a table-top calendar for the coming year.
The calendars will be donated to neighbourhood NGOs to help them raise funds for their respective causes.
Meanwhile, the entry fee for the contest will be donated to the Hua Ming Autism Society to add to the hotel’s on-going Mooncake Charity Promotion to raise funds for the society’s children.
The young artists and their parents were also treated to delights during the Yummy Creative Recipe session with the hotel’s chef Shankar, and took part in a lucky draw and fun workshops on abacus, mental arithmetic and rapid calculation technique as well as eco-friendly soap-making.
