KAJANG: Two robbers believed to be responsible for a goldsmith shop robbery in Cheras were killed after a shoot-out with police at a budget hotel at Kajang.

A crack team from the Kuala Lumpur serious crime division (D9) barged into the hotel room occupied by the robbers at 2.30pm yesterday.

Realising they were surrounded, the robbers fired two shots at the cops. The policemen returned fire and the two, aged aged 29 and 43, were killed instantly, said Kuala Lumpur CID chief SAC II Datuk Ku Chin Wah.

“We believe there is one more robber still at large,” he said, adding that the police had recovered a 9mm pistol and a .38 revolver from the scene.

“We will run ballistics tests on the guns to confirm they were the ones used in the goldsmith shop robbery last Monday,” said SAC II Ku.

He said police also recovered a Honda Civic believed to have been stolen by the robbers in Kepong last Sunday.

The robbers had made off with some RM150,000 worth of jewellery from a goldsmith’s shop in a hypermarket at Taman Connaught. They had reportedly been staying at the budget hotel since last Sunday.
