KOTA KINABALU: An early morning fire destroyed two lighting shops located side-by-side at the Damai Plaza commercial centre here resulting in several million ringgit in losses.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the fire that broke out at about 6.30am.
The fire spread to the first and second floors of the Yun Cheng light fixture shop and to the store room at the third floor.
The ground floor of the shop and that of Tokusow Lighting Centre next door was, however, spared. Fire gutted the second and third floor of the second shop.
Fire and Rescue Department Senior Assistant Supt Irdina Gilu said eight fire engines and 50 firemen rushed to the scene after they received a distress call at 6.50am.
He said the fire spread quickly and the blaze was brought under control at about 8.52am, adding that they are investigating the cause of the fire.
