THE auspicious date of 090909 also marked the Malaysian launch of the entire catalogue of The Beatles’ re-mastered albums.
A crowd of about 40 waited in line for the Movie Magic store at the 1 Utama shopping complex to open its doors at 9am on Wednesday, to buy their copies. Some came as early as 7am.
“For this special launch, we brought in 50 pieces of each Beatles album and sold close to 400 albums in an hour,” said Melvin Wong, Warner Music Malaysia head of international department.
“The enthusiasm for the Beatles catalogue remains strong, and Malaysia is one of the few Asian countries (outside Japan) to launch this series at 9am, in line with the ‘09.09.09’ date,” he added.
Beatles fan Chow Kong Hin, 48, said he was excited about the release of the re-mastered albums.
“I was born in that era and am a big Beatles fan, so I’ve been waiting a long time to listen to these albums (with improved sound),” he said.
A steady stream of fans walked through the day to buy the albums.
The crowd was a mix of young and old, going to show that four decades on, the music of the Beatles continues to inspire.
Also on hand at the store were the Beatles impersonators, hired by Warner, to promote this catalogue campaign nationwide.
