NIBONG TEBAL: A 48-year-old plastic factory owner cheated death when some unidentified men opened fire at him in front of his factory near the Bukit Jawi Golf Resort here yesterday.
Tan Chai Seng, who suffered injuries on his left hand, was treated at the nearby Sungai Bakap Hospital and later sent to the Gleneagles Medical Centre on the island to undergo surgery.
Seberang Prai Selatan district police chief Superintendent Shafien Mamat said the victim was driving his car to his factory in Jalan Krian Kedah, Sungai Jawi, when he noticed a green car trailing him.
He said the victim suspected something amiss and stopped his car outside the factory gate before running into the compound.
"Three men alighted from the car. One of them whipped out a pistol and fired two shots at him, one of which struck Tan's left hand. The trio fled the scene."
Shafien said police were investigating the case to determine if it was due to business rivalry or loan sharks.
