Explosive firework thrown at Sarawak DAP chief’s house

SIBU: It was a rude shock for the state DAP chairman Wong Ho Leng when he discovered a firework, which did not explode, at his house compound at Ipoh Road.

“This type of explosive, which can produce a powerful and deafening explosion, is more dangerous than a molotov cocktail,” he told reporters at his house at 7am yesterday.

Wong, a practising lawyer and assemblyman for Bukit Assek, said he had lodged a police report over the matter.

“I never expected that I would be a target. The police asked me whether I made enemies recently. Honestly, it is impossible for a politician not to have political enemies,” he said.

He said the explosive could have been thrown at his house after 1am as he did not notice anything when he returned from a gathering at about midnight.

“Thank God it failed to explode although it had been ignited,” said Wong who has been staying there for the past 19 years with his family.

He said that this was not the first time that DAP politicians in the state had been targeted.

Recently, molotov cocktails were thrown into the compound of the house of Bandar Kuching DAP MP Chong Chieng Jen.
