Developer rejects Kg Buah Pala residents’ request

What say you on the issue below?

GEORGE TOWN: Kampung Buah Pala developer Nusmetro Ventures (P) Sdn Bhd will not entertain any more requests from residents who are still holding out at the village.

Company executive director Thomas Chan added that he was also perplexed with the residents’ latest request for a two-year reprieve to build a new village.

“As far as we are concerned, we are not entertaining any more requests.

“Also, I’m not very sure what they are referring to when they talk about staying in the western part of the village for two years (when the construction of the ‘new village’ takes place).

“Are they talking about state land beyond the current village or part of the village?” Chan queried when contacted yesterday.

Kampung Buah Pala residents association chairman M. Sugumaran appealed to the state yesterday for a two-year reprieve to build a “new village” similar to the one at Kampung Buah Pala.

He said a 3.2ha piece of land had been identified in Gelugor and the 12 remaining families, who did not opt for a double-storey house deal offered by Nusmetro early last month, hoped to build a “new village” there.

Sugumaran said that during the time of construction, the 12 families could move to the “western wing of the village as that piece of land would not be disturbed” by the construction.

Chan said development plans for the village were broken up into the left and right areas from the main road.
