DBKL open for another meeting

What say you on the issue below?

A MEETING shall be called soon for traders and hawkers who would be relocated to the new Business and Community Complex Bandar Baru Sentul next month.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) director-general Datuk Salleh Yusup said he did not foresee any problems with the meeting requested by the traders and hawkers to iron out outstanding issues.

It was learnt that the traders at the nearby wet market and those operating by road shoulders found the rental fees at the complex too high.

Salleh said this could be reviewed.

Have a good celebration: Salleh (in long-sleeved shirt and tie) speaking to some of the recipients after distributing cash aid and Raya goodies.

“In fact, this is a new complex, so in a way the fees are still reasonable as you have to take into consideration the costs of water and electricity.

“The current location the traders are operating from is not hygienic.

“The complex was built with the aim of providing a proper trading space for hawkers to operate and also to ‘eradicate’ roadside trading stalls,” said Salleh after distributing Hari Raya goodies to some 400 recipients comprising single mothers, the disabled and senior citizens, mostly staying at DBKL flats.

Meanwhile, some of the traders had claimed that the monthly fees (depending on the kiosk or lot size) were between RM110 and RM360.

Salleh added that some of the traders were licensed and some not.

“Once and for all, all the licensed and unlicensed traders in the surrounding area can move under one roof.

“We’ve had many discussions in the past about this complex and back then the traders seemed eager to move in,” said Salleh.

“But we don’t mind having the meeting again and this shall be handled by the DBKL petty traders development and management department.”

It is learnt that there are 135 lots in the complex, comprising dry market (47), wet market (35), food section (43) and the kuih section (10).

He added that the complex would also house a clinic and futsal court.
