GEORGE TOWN: A Chinese national was killed after he was slashed and stabbed numerous times by four men in ski masks on the seventh floor of a multi-storey carpark in Prangin Mall here.

Lee Jie, 29, died shortly after being rushed to hospital. He had just finished watching a movie at the mall’s cineplex with his business partner, a 23-year-old local woman, before the incident occurred at 12.15am yesterday.

Both of them were walking towards the woman’s car when the four men suddenly appeared and demanded valuables from the two.

A scuffle broke out when Lee put up a fight but he was overpowered by the parang-wielding attackers who attacked him relentlessly.

The woman was left unharmed but lost RM1,000 in cash and a handphone to the assailants.

George Town OCPD Asst Comm Azam Abd Hamid said police have established the motive as robbery.

Lee, who is from Shanghai, had come to Penang a year ago before starting a clothing business at the mall with the woman.
