LOOKING for a special place for a quiet, exclusive and cosy buka puasa experience this Ramadan?
Why not try Harrods Tea Salon? Yes, it is at Harrods, the brand synonymous with style and luxury.
Tucked away in a corner near the staircase on the floor of Suria KLCC, it offers more than Harrods’ signature merchandise – it also offers coffee, tea and food.
For meat lovers: The braised lamb shank. The Tea Salon itself is tucked away behind the bar.
“We are trying to create a colonial ambience, as in the Harrods Georgian Room in London.
“Here, our customers can enjoy a quiet time while having their buka puasa,” said Sofiah Rahman, general manager of Tradewinds Premium Goods Sdn Bhd, the franchise holder of the Harrods brand in Malaysia.
The walls are adorned with framed mementos and images from Harrods’ illustrious history and the outlet offers a view overlooking the KLCC park.
Throughout the fasting month, diners can enjoy a selection of set menus at the outlet.
In addition to the choices on its a la carte menu, diners can opt for the specially created buka puasa set.
“It is a five-course meal with a choice of main course.
Specially for buka puasa: Start the meal with ajwa dates, almonds and dried apricots (bottom), and end it with delightful cardomom custard and mini baklava. “Diners can choose between salmon and lamb shank,” Sofiah said.
For those who prefer a meal with less fat, the salmon pepper sauce is perfect.
It comes with baked potato and asparagus in lemon pepper sauce.
The outlet’s chef de cuisine, Tony Cham, said minimal spices were used in the preparation to keep the rich flavour of the fish. The fish is simply seasoned with salt and pepper.
The sourish lemon pepper sauce complements the fish well and neutralises the fishy taste.
For meat lovers, though, the braised lamb shank is an easy choice.
The dish is a delight even to those who do not usually favour lamb. The meat just falls off the bone and melts in the mouth, making for effortless eating. Cham explained that the shank was slow-cooked for a few hours.
The dish also comes with chunks of carrots, cherry tomatoes and zucchini for a wholesome meal.
The lamb shank is served with saffron rice which is cooked with cashew and raisins.
The set meal also comes with lentil and coriander soup and date juice, which is highly nutritious and high in fibre.
The meal is rounded off with sinful cardomom custard and a plate of mini baklava.
Diners also have a choice of tea or coffee at the end of the meal.
For buka puasa, guests are also served dried apricots, almond and Ajwa dates – the best and most expensive variety of dates.
“We are Harrods, after all,” Sofiah quipped.
The buka puasa set menu is priced at RM120++ per person but the outlet can only accommodate only 28 people, so those who wish to break fast there are encouraged to make reservations to avoid disappointment.
