Bagan Pinang crucial in determining nation’s future, says MCA chief

KUALA TERENGGANU: The country is in its crucial phase of transformation and the votes from Bagan Pinang is important in determining the future of the nation, said MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

Ong said the by-election was important for Barisan Nasional and MCA as the party felt the poll would be an acid test for Barisan.

“Therefore, MCA will strive hard to ensure victory for the Barisan candidate.

“It is imperative for the MCA election machinery and other Barisan counterparts to work together to ensure a thumping victory in the by-election,” said Ong, who is also the Transport Minister.

Ong said the MCA would go to the ground to explain the paradigm undertaken by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said Federal MCA leaders, including himself, would frequently visit the constituency during the campaign period.

Ong added efforts must be made to reach out to the voters, including wooing those residing outstation.

He added MCA had assigned its Negri Sembilan state liaison committee chairman Senator Datuk Dr Yeow Chai Thiam to head the party’s by-election machinery for Bagan Pinang.

“The MCA national-level will assist our Negri Sembilan counterpart by providing the necessary reinforcements in aspects of manpower, logistics and campaign materials,” he said after visiting the Terengganu Buddhist Association’s complex here yesterday.

Ong added he would also not be distracted by attempts of the opposition parties to smear his name.
