THE Contemporary Malaysian Watercolorist Association and Soka Gakkai Malaysia are jointly organising The Contemporary Malaysian Watercolorist Association Annual Exhibition at Wisma Kebudayaan SGM that runs until Sept 20.

This year’s exhibition features 58 watercolour artworks by 21 renowned artists on subjects that range from Mount Kinabalu in Sabah to fishing villages in Peninsular Malaysia.

The artists hail from all over Malaysia, including Kedah, Penang, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak and Sabah.

“The members of the association are relentless in their pursuit of art and often hold exhibitions. These events contribute to the promotion and development of watercolouring within our society,” Soka Gakkai Malaysia president Koe Teng Hong said.

The association was formed 16 years ago, in 1993, and has members all over the country.

As a member of the Asia Watercolor Painting Alliance, the association has actively participated in the alliance exhibitions overseas, such as in China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Singapore.

“Such exhibitions promote cultural exchanges, strengthen friendship bonds and bring our local watercolour artworks into the international arena,” Koe said.

The current exhibition features artworks with a wide variety of themes reflecting Malaysia’s scenic beauty and unique locations, among others.

According to Koe, such an exhibition not only provides a platform for artists to discuss and showcase their paintings but also promotes and popularises watercolour paintings among the public.

Also present was Tanjung Malim MP Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan, who launched the exhibition.

Admission to the exhibition is free and viewing hours are from 11am to 6pm daily. Wisma Kebudayaan SGM located at 243, Jalan Bukit Bintang, 55100 Kuala Lumpur.
