GET your running shoes ready for a fun-filled, scenic early morning jog that also benefits the less fortunate at Hard Rock Hotel Penang’s Rock to Rock Run 2011.
The charity fun run, to be held on Nov 13 from 6.30am, aims to raise at least RM50,000, to be split between the Crystal Family Home and the Association of Rehab of the Disabled.
Participants will cover a scenic 3.8km route from the hotel to the Tropical Spice Garden and back.
“Our first Rock to Rock Run last year successfully raised over RM40,000 for a charitable home in Penang.
“This time around, based on the support from sponsors and encouraging response we have been receiving from the runners, we’re confident of exceeding that figure,” said the hotel executive assistant manager Shane Coates.
The Crystal Family Home is a non-profit voluntary welfare organisation which helps children who need a home while the Association of Rehab of the Disabled provides opportunities for disabled persons, both physical and intellectual, to gain employment.
Registration for the Rock to Rock Run is ongoing until Oct 7, and can be done at the hotel, the Penang Amateur Athletic Association (PAAA) office behind SEAMEO RECSAM in Gelugor and the Shanghai Sing Mee Co (M) Sdn Bhd on Macalister Road.
Participation is limited to the first 1,500. There is a fee of RM50 per person, which is inclusive of one limited edition T-shirt, certificate of participation and lucky draw.
The run is divided into four categories – Male and Female for those aged 13 to 39, as well as Male and Female Veteran for those aged 40 and above. There will be prizes for the first to fifth-placed winners. Additionally, the first 500 finishers will get a mystery gift.
As with last year, there will also be a contest to find the top 10 best-dressed participants.
The event is organised by the hotel in collaboration with the PAAA and the Penang Sports Council.
