THE Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) market complex in Balik Pulau was a hive of acti- vity during the weekend with family programmes.
The ‘Interaksi 2011 Balik Pulau’ community carnival saw children, their parents and grandparents thronging the venue to participate in handicraft-making competitions, quizzes and aerobics session.
The event included a blood donation drive, an arts and craft market and exhibition by various government agencies as well as a motorcycle exhibition.
The event was organised by Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusoff’s office, Fikrah Collective and MPPP on Saturday and yesteday. The highlight of the event was a poetry recital by national laureate Datuk A. Samad Said.
In his opening speech, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Mansor Othman, who is state PKR chairman, emphasised on the importance of close cooperation between the people and the state government.
“Development is more than just building infrastructure — it’s about involving the people and getting their feedback on what they want,” he said.
Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the two-day event. Also present were Yusmadi and state PKR leaders.
