RM10,000 boost for centre

What say you on the issue below?

THE Cerebral Palsy (Spastic) Children’s Association of Penang, which launched a charity drive to raise RM200,000, received a boost when 69 Mansion by the Beach donated RM10,000 to the association.

G. Lee, who is the operations manager of the bistro in Batu Ferringhi, which is an associate company of Billion Frontier Group of Companies, presented the RM10,000 cheque to the centre’s treasurer Nutan Shah and immediate past president Saw Eng Hock on Sept 29.

Nutan said the contribution was timely as the centre had launched a charity drive to raise RM200,000 in June.

“We have raised about RM54,000 since June. On Nov 25, we are organising a charity dinner at the Che Hoon Khor Moral Uplifting Society to raise another RM150,000.

“The last time we held a charity dinner to raise funds was two years ago,” he said on Thursday.

“Our expenses are about RM90,000 per month, so RM200,000 will last us for about two months,” he added.

The centre, inaugurated in 1962, currently provides day care to 156 children.

The number of children atten-ding the centre increases by about 10% annually. Billion Frontier and six other firms had taken part in a 1km charity walk themed ‘Walk With Us’ in conjunction with the Penang Starwalk 2011.

The company selected the centre for its RM10,000 pledge made during the walk.

The other companies who made similar pledges to the charities of their choosing were Globetronics Technology Berhad, Agilent Technologies Microwave Pro-ducts (M) Sdn Bhd, Ideal Group, Sunway Grand Sdn Bhd, Leader Universal and DNP Land Sdn Bhd.

The Penang Down Syndrome Association, St Nicholas Home, Shammah Children’s Home, Penang Cheshire Home, SIMA Handicapped Centre and St Joseph Home were the other beneficiaries of the walk.

Star Publications (M) Bhd had donated RM40,000 to the Penang Hospice Home, Pure Lotus Hospice of Compassion and the Penang Caring Dialysis Society.

The walk was led by Star Publications executive director Tan Sri Kamal Hashim who was joined by Star Publications non-executive director Datin Linda Ngiam and regional operations manager (north) Chung Chok Yin.
