RESIDENTS of the Krystal Villa condominium would have to settle their maintenance fees promptly now because their previous management company had incurred utility debts to Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and the Penang Water Supply Corporation Sdn Bhd (PBA).

They would now have to pay to the new joint management committee of JMB Krystal Point and the pro-tem committee of Krystal Villa after the previous management company had their services terminated on Sept 27.

Krystal Villa pro-tem committee chairman Danny Looi said the residents were now burdened with debts of RM36,330.50, which they owed TNB as of Oct 1.

“The debt resulted in a power cut on Sept 14 for a week. We were also saddled with a financial obligation of RM117,353.55 as of Sept 13, which we owed to PBA,” he said after lea-ding a peaceful demonstration against their apartment’s management company along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah on Sunday.

“We are clueless on the balance of our sinking fund and we are not provided with the details of the audited account. We also need to know how much balance we have in our sinking funds to do some major repair work on the facilities in our apartment. The security guard service was terminated and the water storage tank was leaking,” he said.

Engineer Chin Boon Seng, 42, who has been living in the apartment for 12 years, said he was disappointed that his two children aged five and seven were unable to enjoy the faci-lities.

“My children are unable to swim in the swimming pool due to the poor maintenance,” he said.

Pantai Jerejak assemblyman Sim Tze Tzin said a meeting was conducted at the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) office in Komtar on Monday.

This has resulted in the two parties (residents of Krystal Villa and its JMB) coming up with a solution.

The meeting was attended by Sim, representatives of Krystal Villa and JMB Krystal Point as well as MPPP president Patahiyah Ismail.

Sim said he would help the residents to restructure the debt they owed TNB and PBA.

The residents would likely settle the payments in instalments over nine months.
