ON YOUR marks, get set... GO! With those words, Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek and former Miss Malaysia Deborah Henry flagged off the 500 strong walkers in Souled Out’s Colours of Life Charity Walk.
The walk also served to kick off Souled Out’s 15th anniversary celebrations which were themed Xperience.
“Souled Out is all about experiencing friendship and camaraderie in a great atmosphere with good food and drinks. After all these years, my team and I are still very passionate about the business.
“It makes me happy to see so many customers coming again and again, some even come with their children now,” Souled Out commander-in-chief Fred Choo said.
The Colours of Life Charity Walk was a fun walk around Desa Sri Hartamas and it raised RM15,000 for the Pertiwi Soup Kitchen, which provides free meals to the underprivileged in Kuala Lumpur.
Following the walk, a street carnival started at 10am with loads of stalls offering food (including special Oktoberfest fare), drinks, games and 30 or more vendors selling arts and crafts, bric-a-brac, pre-loved goods, clothes, children’s items and gourmet foodstuff.
Entertainment during the day came in the guise of a combined effort from staff of Souled Out, 7atenine and WIP taking to the stage with their rendition of contemporary songs and dances.
“I am most appreciative of my staff. This was their initiative and they practised throughout their break times and after the outlets closed,” Choo said.
In the evening, the programme continued with a taste of Germany as the Oktoberfest part of the celebrations kicked off with a parade of Bufori cars, drummers, carnival fringe acts, Bavarian beer girls, SO Gaya Dancers and a Bavarian Oom-Pah-Pah band Die Dorf Fest Kapelle who kept the 700 strong crowd on their feet with a lively repertoire.
DJ Augie then took over to the screams of revelers who hit the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning.
Colourful carnival characters like stiltwalkers and clowns completed the lively and vibrant atmosphere.
The celebration ended with a spectacular musical fireworks display.
