AXA Hearts in Action (AXA), together with MoneyTree organised a Financial Literacy Education Workshop recently for children and teenagers aged nine to 17 from three homes.

More than 90 children from Yayasan Sunbeams, Rumah Titian Kaseh and Tara Bhavan Children’s Home were taught the value of money as well as developing good spending habits.

Present at the event was Affin General Insurance corporate affairs senior vice-president Aisah Bevi Abdul Rahman.

Warm reception: Aisah welcoming the children to the programme.

“We are glad to be part of this educational programme. We believe financial literacy is relevant to everyday life, more so for these underprivileged children,” said Aisah.

“By starting early, they can explore their potential to become a generation of savvy investors in the future. Besides fostering their interest, this programme will also raise the level of understanding and awareness on insurance through the use of financial literacy education,” she added.

After the workshop, the children were tested on their knowledge through MoneyTreevia.

The children were excited to answer the questions posed to them.

Throughout the classroom session, the students earned MoneyTree dollars and MoneyTree Auction was the activity that allowed them to use the money to bid for prizes that were offered to them.

This activity helped them to evaluate the cost-effective value in obtaining an item they desired.

Stock Market introduced the students to the Basics of Investing, via a stock market simulation. In this activity, students learned how to process information, such as market news, to be used in decision-making when investing in the stock market.

AXA is a global volunteering programme that forges partnerships with community organisations and enables employees to contribute their time and skills to the community.
