Where ox tongue is the signature dish

What say you on the issue below?

HEAD on to the Duyong Restaurant in Kelab Darul Ehsan, Ampang, for home-inspired traditional dishes this Ramadan.

There are 10 menus rotated with at least 80 dishes every day.

Good start: A selection of starters with different kerabu and salads.

Some of the main dishes are Nasi Minyak, Briyani, Nasi Hujan Panas, Nasi Bukhari, Nasi Arab, Nasi Tomato, Ayam Masak Merah, Daging Panggang, Baby Kailan with Mushroom Sauce, Rendang Mamak Maiden, Ayam Masak Lemak Rebung, Kambing Masak Kuzi, Ayam Sambal, Buttered Prawns, Sotong with Dried Chili and Kari Ikan Tenggiri.

There are live stalls set up to dish up favourites like Laksa Johor, Hainanese Chicken Rice, Bakar-Bakar favourites like Tongue, Mutton and Fish, Satay, Nyonya-style Mee Curry, Bakso, Prawn Mee, Mee Soto, Jawa or Rebus, Mee Mamak, freshly-made Roti Jala, Pita Bread, Roti Canai, Roti John, Chicken Murtabak, Roti Boom, Popiah Goreng, Char Kway Teow and Yong Tau Foo, to name a few.

Western dishes such as Steamed Perch Fillet, Baked Macaroni, Quiche, Chicken Pie and Roasted Stuffed with Western Herbs are also a must-try.

There are also sweet delicacies like Ice cream Potong, Ice Kacang, assorted Malay Kuih, pastries, cakes and Bubur Kacang.

For kids, a special kids’ stall featuring all-time yummies like burgers, potato wedges, hot dogs and sausage rolls are included as part of the spread.

According to executive chef Mustafa Kamal Sarbani most people look for street food or home cooked food during the fasting month.

Southern fare: Laksa Johor with spaghetti.

“The signature dish here is the Ox Tongue, which is a compulsory menu because customers always come looking for it.

“The tongue is marinated for two days with secret herbs and spices before it is cooked.

“I would also like to recommend the Nasi Minyak Arab, which can be eaten by itself.

“It is not your typical nasi minyak because of the combination of spices, which I learnt to do during my stint working in the Middle East.

Good by itself: Nasi Minyak Arab is a must-try.
