Umno Youth: Act against those out to sour KL-Jakarta ties

What say you on the issue below?

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth is calling on the Indonesian government to act against individuals or groups who used physical or cyber attacks to muddy ties between the two nations.

The movement’s international relations bureau committee members submitted a memorandum to the Indonesian embassy yesterday to voice their concerns about the strained Indonesia-Malaysia ties.

Bureau chairman Datuk Ahmad Zaki and Kota Melaka Umno Youth exco member Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman were met by minister counsellor for information, social and culture Widyarka Ryananta, who would forward the memorandum to the ambassador.

In the memorandum, Umno Youth also urged the Indonesian media to report issues objectively and to stop sensationalism that could whip up even more anger among Indonesians.

Ahmad suggested that bilateral talks be held through forums and dialogues between leaders and diplomats as well as involving politicians, non-governmental organisations, business owners, intellectual figures, students and personalities.

He said Widyarka was happy to note that there was no tension here and that the bureau’s visit was not in the form of a protest.

Meanwhile, Malaysian and Indo- nesian students’ associations have proposed several initiatives to defuse tension between the two countries.

The National Muslim Students’ Association and Indonesian Muslim Students’ Association, in a signed statement, said there should be a more diplomatic approach and emphasis on discussions to resolve issues of mutual interest.

“Be more aware of the value of Islamic brotherhood when facing the numerous issues involving both countries,” said the statement signed by president of the Malaysian association Muhammad Faisal Abdul Aziz and his Indonesian counterpart Nashrullah Al-Ghifary.
