ALOR STAR: Essential food items for the Hari Raya season are sufficient, said Deputy Domestic Trade, Cooperative and Consumerism Minister Datuk Tan Lian Hoe.
Suppliers of agricultural products as well as food industry players had assured the ministry of this, she added.
“There is increased demand because of open houses and wedding feasts which are usually held during the festive holidays,” she said when met after inspecting prices of goods at the main market here yesterday.
Tan urged consumers not to resort to panic buying as this could lead to an artificial shortage.
“Buy what you need only. If you are dissatisfied with the products or supply, lodge a complaint. Our toll free number is 1-800-886-800,” she added.
The ministry has not received any complaints of insufficient supply of essential items, she added.
