About 8,000 Hokkiens from Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong will gather in Klang tomorrow to celebrate the 27th anniversary of the Thean Hock Keong temple that is famous for its large sculptures of snakes that adorn the yellow and red building.

The devotees would gather for a prayer session to seek divine blessings and economic success with the highlight of the event that involves the lighting up of 388 large joss sticks measuring six metres in height.

One of the temple’s strong supporters is Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau and several other artistes.

Temple chairman Datuk Steven Tee said preparations were made to accommodate the locals as well as tourists and close to 8,000 people are expected.

“We spent RM200,000 to spruce up the temple in Jalan Tepi Sungai to resemble a temple in the mountains of the Hokkien province in China.

“The temple has become a tourist attraction over the years. And, there is ample parking space,” he added.
